Laboratory Cleaning
Sydney.

General cleaning for Sydney laboratories — floors, benches and common areas, working to a scope with clear, written boundaries around anything the lab's own staff must own.

Professional Laboratory Cleaning Sydney services in Sydney — Sydney Clean Group
Overview

What a cleaner does, and does not, touch in a lab

Sydney Clean Group provides general cleaning for laboratories across Greater Sydney from our base at 77 Garfield Street, Wentworthville NSW 2145. A laboratory is not a single environment — it's general floor and common areas that behave like any commercial space, plus bench and equipment areas where the boundary between cleaning and the lab's own procedures has to be drawn precisely and in writing before we start.

Decontamination of experimental equipment, chemical and biological waste handling, sharps management and anything requiring lab-specific training remain entirely with the laboratory's own staff under their own procedures. Our scope covers general cleaning — floors, common areas, non-experimental furniture, kitchens and amenities, and bench exteriors where the lab has explicitly cleared us to work — and nothing beyond that line without it being agreed and documented first.

We schedule around active experiments rather than a fixed daily slot, because the same room can be safe to clean at 8am and off-limits at 2pm depending on what's running. Gowning and access requirements set by the facility are followed exactly as specified, not treated as optional.

Facilities running server or equipment rooms alongside a lab should also see our data centre contamination control service for that separate environment.

What We Cover

What our scope covers.

General Floor Areas

Corridors, offices, meeting rooms and non-experimental floor space cleaned to a standard commercial routine, separate from anything inside a working lab zone.

Bench Exteriors (Where Cleared)

External bench and cabinet surfaces cleaned only where the lab has explicitly identified them as clear of equipment and safe for general cleaning access.

Staff Kitchens & Amenities

Shared staff kitchens, tea points and bathrooms cleaned to a standard commercial scope, kept entirely separate from any lab-designated area.

Reception & Office Areas

Front-of-house reception, administration offices and meeting rooms attached to the facility, cleaned on a standard commercial schedule.

Scheduling Around Experiments

Cleaning windows are agreed with lab management and can shift room by room and day by day depending on what's actively running.

General Waste (Non-Hazardous Only)

General office and kitchen waste and recycling collected under our scope; chemical, biological and sharps waste remain entirely outside it.

Why Choose Us

Why facilities choose us.

Conservative About Scope

We write down precisely what our cleaners will and won't touch before the first shift, so there's no ambiguity for either side once work starts.

Follows Facility Access Protocols

Gowning, sign-in and escorted access requirements set by the facility are followed exactly, every visit, without needing to be re-explained.

Flexible Around Active Work

Scheduling adjusts around what's running in the lab that day rather than forcing a fixed cleaning slot onto an unpredictable research schedule.

Fully Insured, Trained Staff

Cleaners are briefed on facility-specific protocols at induction and covered by public liability insurance for every visit.

Cleaning versus decontamination — a boundary, not a grey area

General cleaning removes dust, dirt and visible soiling from surfaces that are not part of an experimental process. Decontamination is a procedure specific to what was run in that space — the correct agent, contact time and disposal method depend entirely on the experiment, and that knowledge sits with lab staff, not a cleaning contractor. We do not decontaminate bench surfaces, equipment or spill areas connected to lab work under any circumstances, regardless of how routine the request might seem on a given day.

This isn't caution for its own sake — it reflects that decontamination requirements vary by what was handled, and getting it wrong creates a genuine safety issue for the next person to use that space. Where a bench or area needs decontamination, that is scheduled and performed by the lab's own trained staff, and our general clean resumes once the lab has cleared the space as safe for standard access.

Sharps and chemical waste stay entirely outside our scope

Sharps containers, chemical waste, biological waste and any specimen material are never handled, moved or disposed of by our cleaners under any circumstances. These waste streams have their own regulated handling and disposal pathway managed by the facility, and mixing a general cleaning contract into that pathway creates compliance risk for the lab, not just a cleaning quality issue.

What we collect is general, non-hazardous waste from offices, staff kitchens and non-experimental common areas — the same waste stream as any commercial building. If a cleaner finds anything that looks like it might be lab waste in a general bin, the response is to stop, leave it in place and notify the lab contact, not to make a judgment call about what it is.

Gowning, access protocols and escorted entry

Laboratories set their own access requirements — sign-in procedures, gowning, footwear covers, and in some facilities escorted access only — and these are followed exactly as specified rather than treated as a suggestion. Where a facility requires our cleaners to be escorted through certain zones, that escort requirement is built into the scheduling rather than worked around.

Cleaners assigned to a laboratory site are briefed on that specific facility's access and gowning requirements at induction, before their first shift, so there's no learning curve happening on-site during actual access.

Scheduling around active experiments

Unlike an office, a lab's cleaning-safe windows can change day to day or even hour to hour depending on what's actively running. A bench area that's clear on Monday might have an experiment in progress on Wednesday that makes the same area off-limits until it's finished and cleared. We agree a scheduling process with lab management — usually a standing window with a same-day override system — rather than assuming a fixed daily slot will always be safe to enter.

This means our cleaners check in with lab staff or a facility coordinator before starting work in any zone adjacent to active research, and will skip and reschedule a specific area rather than proceed into a space they haven't been cleared to enter that day.

What we clean without hesitation

None of these boundaries make general laboratory cleaning a reduced service — reception areas, administration offices, meeting rooms, corridors, staff kitchens and bathrooms are cleaned to the same standard as any commercial facility, on the same frequency you'd expect from an office contract. The distinction only applies inside the working lab footprint itself.

We start every laboratory contract with a walk-through alongside facility and lab management to map exactly which zones fall under general cleaning, which are bench-exterior-only, and which are entirely off-limits, and that map becomes the written scope both sides work from. Frequently Asked Questions

Laboratory Cleaning Sydney — FAQs.

Do your cleaners decontaminate lab benches or equipment?

No. Decontamination requires knowledge of exactly what was run in that space and the correct agent and contact time, and that stays entirely with the lab's own trained staff. Our cleaners perform general cleaning only, and never on equipment or bench areas connected to active experimental use.

Do you handle sharps or chemical waste?

No, never. Sharps, chemical, biological and specimen waste stay entirely outside our scope and are managed by the facility's own regulated waste pathway. We collect only general, non-hazardous waste from offices, kitchens and common areas.

How do you schedule cleaning around experiments in progress?

We agree a scheduling process with lab management, usually a standing cleaning window plus a same-day override system, so a zone can be excluded on short notice if an experiment is running. Cleaners check in before entering any zone adjacent to active research.

What areas of a lab facility do you actually clean?

General floors, corridors, offices, reception, meeting rooms, staff kitchens and bathrooms are cleaned on a standard commercial schedule. Bench exteriors are cleaned only where the lab has explicitly identified them as clear of equipment and safe for general access.

Do your cleaners follow gowning and access protocols?

Yes, exactly as specified by the facility — sign-in, gowning, footwear covers and escorted access where required. Cleaners are briefed on facility-specific protocols at induction before their first shift.

Is laboratory cleaning different from medical centre cleaning?

Yes. Medical centre cleaning follows a clinical two-stage cleaning and disinfection process across consulting rooms. Laboratory cleaning is scoped around a stricter boundary — general areas only, with decontamination, chemical handling and sharps left entirely to the lab's own staff and procedures.

How much does laboratory cleaning cost in Sydney?

Pricing depends on the size of general areas, the extent of bench-exterior access agreed, and service frequency. We quote from a written scope after a facility walk-through. Call 02 9139 8401 for a tailored quote.
